About St. Andrew Presbyterian Church

St. Andrew Presbyterian Church has an over 150-year history ministering in Denton, Texas. We’re a church of over 600 members. There are two ways to get to know us. We worship on Sunday mornings at 10:45am, in person and streaming online. We also gather in the middle of the week for fellowship and learning during our Super Wednesday program, which begins with a meal at 5:30pm.

You’ll find a loving, caring Christian community at St. Andrew with opportunities to connect with others in a number of different ways. We gather together twice a week, on Sundays and Wednesdays, to learn together at our Christian Education classes. The entire family will find class opportunities to learn and connect with others. Adults will find opportunities to meet throughout the week, as well, in groups like the Presbyterian Women, Men’s Book Study, or Theology on Tap.

Serving our community is at the core of who we are. We host a Preschool and Kindergarten program called The Children’s Place and an afterschool program called The Treehouse.  We’re also active with Hearts for Homes, Habitat for Humanity, Interfaith Ministries, and the Denton Community Food Center. View a full list of our Mission Partners here.

St. Andrew’s music program is exceptional. There are choirs for elementary-aged children, high schoolers, adults and a bell choir. The hymns that we sing in worship are typically led by pipe organ. We’re also fortunate to have a number of musicians willing to serve occasionally in worship on instruments ranging from cello to the clarinet. We’ve also been fortunate to host jazz services and congregational hymn sings in recent years.

We hope that you’ll take a more detailed look at the programs and services that we have here at St. Andrew. This is a Christian community that we hope you’ll call home.

What We Believe

St. Andrew Presbyterian Church is a part of a denomination called the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). There are many different types of Christian church denominations, and each one brings a series of beliefs and a rich history that tells you about the faith they profess.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is a confessional church, whose beliefs are expounded in a series of theological documents known as confessions. The denomination has collected those confessions in a book called The Book of Confessions. You may have heard of some of the confessions that our denomination holds to, like the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, the Heidelberg Confession, or the Westminster Confession of Faith. There are other contemporary confessions that we hold to, as well, like our denomination’s Brief Statement of Faith or the Theological Declaration of Barmen.

As a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), St. Andrew Presbyterian Church finds its historical roots in the tradition of the Reformation. Two figures loom large in this history: John Knox and John Calvin, both are theologians you are likely to hear about here at St. Andrew. While our roots are in the reformation, you’ll also hear from contemporary voices like Barbara Brown Taylor and N.T. Wright.

The best way to get to know about our beliefs is to attend a Presbyterian 101 class. Typically classes are offered in the fall and in the spring on Sunday mornings. Check out our Sunday School page to see if the class is currently being offered.
